Jabalpur Chhattisgarh Bandhavgarh National Park

Day 01 – Arrive Jabalpur by flight/train

On arrival at Jabalpur airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The British took over Jabalpur in 1817 and their imprint is visible in the cantonment, colonial-style residences and barracks. Today, the city is an important administrative and commercial center famous mainly for the “Marble Rocks” that rise like cliffs from the Narmada 22 km west of the city. In the evening you are at leisure. Overnight – Narmada Jackson

Day 02 – Jabalpur – Bandhavgarh (MADHYA PRADESH)

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, you will be taken for the sightseeing tour of Jabalpur. Here, you will visit the Dhauladhar Falls, the Chausath Yogini Temple, the Tilwara Ghat, the Madan Mahal Fort and the medieval constructions of Sangram Sagar and Bajnamath.

After sightseeing, you will drive to Bandhavgarh. [194 Kms / 4 Hrs] The name Bandhavgarh is derived from the word ‘bandhav’ meaning brother and ‘garh’ meaning fort. According to Legend, Lord Rama was passing through these forests after defeating Ravana. He decided to build a fort here and gift it to his devoted brother Lakshmana.

Several historical monuments and twelve large water tanks are scattered around this 580 acres Fort. The Fort here is believed to be 2,000 years old with scattered cave shrines. Overnight - Salvan

Day 03 - Bandhavgarh

Enjoy morning & afternoon game drives. Bandhavgarh National Park - Nestled amongst the picturesque Satpura hills, this is one of India's most scenic national parks. The dramatic landscape features tropical forests and woodlands, and steep rocky hills with flat grasslands in the valleys below. Before becoming a national park in 1968, it was the game reserve of the Maharaja of Rewa.

The park, with a core area of 448 sq km, has a variety of animals like tiger, leopard, sloth bear, sambar, chital, wild boar and numerous bird species like green pigeon, Jerdon’s leaf bird, crested serpent eagle, vultures etc. Enjoy again, you will enjoy 02 game drives [morning and afternoon] to the National Park. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight - Salvan

DAY04 [BANDHAVGARH-KANHA] - MADHYA PRADESH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, you will drive to Kanha. [250 Kms / 05 Hrs] Kanha is one of India’s largest national parks with an area of 1945 sq.km. It supports excellent wildlife and is a part of Project Tiger. Kanha became a national park in 1955 and has 22 species of mammals including spotted deer, wild boar, blackbuck, Langur and of course tigers. It is also one of the best places in the state for bird watching, with 230 species of birds recorded.

Kanha Tiger Reserve encompasses 751 square miles of varied habitats, and is one of the largest reserves in India. It is a beautiful region situated on a plateau in the Maikal Range, and is made up of a crescent of hills (rising to 3,000 feet) that embraces broad undulating grasslands speckled with clumps of bamboo and Sal forest. Mixed deciduous forest cloaks the hills and borders the meadows. The reserve is famous for its Swamp Deer - the only population of the hard-ground race in existence.

Since the launch of the initially successful Project Tiger in the early '70s, Kanha has been one of the Project's key Tiger Reserves and, because its wide meadows are so suited to successful Tiger viewing, it has become the best place in the world in which to search for this king of beasts. Besides Tigers, you can also hope to see plenty of Sambar, Spotted and Swamp Deer and Common Langur’s, Gaur (the huge Asiatic Bison), Wild Boar, Asiatic Jackal, and with luck, Leopard and Dhole (the Indian Wild Dog). Sloth Bear and one of India's lowland antelopes- Chousingha also occur and may be seen with patience and good fortune. On arrival, you will check-in at your hotel.

The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or pursue independent activities. Overnight – Kanha Jungle Lodge.

Day 05 [KANHA] - MADHYA PRADESH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. You will enjoy morning and afternoon game safaris to the Park for all the three days.

One of the days you will come out of the park through the other gate and enjoy a rustic lunch outside and head back trough the village road enjoying the village and the people and reach the Kisli gate just in time for the afternoon safari. Overnight – Kanha Jungle Lodge.

DAY06 [KANHA - KAWARDHA] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, you will drive to the former princely state of Kawardha. [96 Kms / 3.5 Hrs] Kawardha is located in Chhattisgarh. This peaceful town overlooked by the Maikal Hill range is in the heartland state of Madhya Pradesh. Of all India's many jewels Kawardha is a treasure trove of breathtaking scenery and fascinating reminders of India's cultural heritage.

On arrival, you will check in at your hotel.Palace Kawardha was designed and built by Maharaja Dharamraj Singh in the period 1936-39. Accomodation comprises four spacious double suites and one 1st floor family suite. All our suites have w/style bathroom facilities. Sprawling verandas surround the Palace and from these airy locations many delightful species of birds can be observed throughout the year.

The gardens and bird-walk provide opportunities for peaceful moments with Mother Nature. In the afternoon, you will be taken for a familiarization tour of the Palace and nearby cultural sites including the captivating Bhoramdeo Temple complex. You will return to the Palace at sunset. Overnight – Kawardha Palace.

DAY 07 [KAWARDHA] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, a well-versed Palace guide will accompany you on an introduction to the secrets of Kawardha's little-known natural and tribal world. You will meet the gentle and friendly Baiga people, the principal indigenous forest tribe.

Enjoy picnic lunch with them. In the evening return to the Palace and after wash and change proceed for the dinner with the Royal Family. Overnight – Kawardha Palace.

DAY 08 [KAWARDHA]- CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. Full day is at leisure to pursue independent activities with Kritty. Kritty [Yuvrani of the Palace] will arrange some things to see and do where she would also accompany you. There would not be any guide today. Overnight – Kawardha Palace.

DAY 09 [KAWARDHA-KANKER]- CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, you will drive to Kanker. [250 Kms / 5.6 Hrs] This thousand year old town offers a splendid combination of forest, waterfalls and exquisite tribal villages nestled inside.

Here is an old Palace still resided by the royal family of the area, which itself is one of the major tourist attractions in Chhattisgarh. On arrival, you will check-in at your hotel. Overnight – Kanker Palace.

DAY 10 [KANKER] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast at the Palace, the Bastar tribal experience begins. South of Kanker you and your royal guide climb the forested Keshkal Ghat which marks the border of Bastar 500m above the plain. You will encounter here the special nature of North Bastar with a visit to a colorful weekly market. It gives you a great opportunity to meet the local people.

At Kondagaon and Narayanpur, discover some of Bastar's finest handicrafts and the people who make them. Lunch will be a picnic in the deep green sal forests. An early evening Deer Horn dance by youthful members of Bastar's 'Muria tribe' from the Ghotul completes an unforgettable day before the star - lit. Ghotul is the culture of the tribes of Bastar. Ghotul is the place, where young girls and boys live to understand the culture and structure of their society. These young people enjoy themselves here along with taking lessons in life. They dance and sing and make merry.

Most of them choose their life partners in the Ghotul and go out and get married with the consent of the chieftains. Return to Kanker and a late dinner at the Palace. Overnight – Kanker Palace.

DAY 11 [KANKER-JAGDALPUR] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, proceed to Jagdalpur. [145 Kms / 3 Hrs] Jagdalpur is Bastar's main town and former capital. After freshening up at Bastar Royal farm, you will join royal family members for lunch. In the afternoon, a royal guided tour of historical Jagdalpur and the Anthropological Museum is completed by sunset, ideally at the Chitrakoot waterfall - Bastar's very own 'Niagara' on the Indravati river.

You will also visit some of the local tribes, renowned for their ceremonial dancing. Conditions permitting, a barbecue is served under the stars in authentic Bastar style. You will be entertained by a performance of the tribal people, before returning to your hotel. Overnight – Royal Bastar Farm.

DAY 12 [JAGDALPUR] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today you will spend the entire day with Bison Horn tribe. This tribe is located at a distance of 45 Kms from Jagdalpur. The total strength of the village is 483 people with Spent a day with its economy completely dependent on agriculture and forestry product.

We will advise to start a little early today, at around 7.00 AM. This will enable you to watch all activities of the villagers and spend enough time with them knowing about their lifestyle and tradition. Lunch will be organised with a family over there. Later, you will also get an opportunity to watch their dance. By evening, you will return to your hotel. Overnight – Royal Bastar Farm.

DAY 13 [JAGDALPUR] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today, you will visit the local markets and neighbouring tribal villages and enjoy a lot of interaction with the local people around. Your escort, who would be able to communicate in the local language, will help in understanding the language. You may even shop around for some exquisite handicrafts of Bastar. Overnight – Royal Bastar Farm

DAY 14 [JAGDALPUR-RAIPUR] - CHHATISGARH

Breakfast is at the Hotel. After breakfast, you will drive to Raipur. [300 Kms / 6.7 Hrs] Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, is where Mahanadi River originates and flows through the state of Chhattisgarh before finding its way to the Bay of Bengal. It is an emerging industrial city with imprints of mining and agricultural still visible on its soil. The plains of Raipur are fertile and lush with paddy.

The Vindhyachal range forms another distinct part of Raipur's topography. Experience the warmth of the plain-dwellers, under the shade of the Vindhyachal Range as Mahanadi river meanders by, on your tour to Raipur. Raipur is a treasure-trove of monuments and ancient traditions that are of national, historical and anthropological significance.

The tribal traditions so unique to the land are thus preserved in their true forms in the rural areas in Raipur. On arrival, you will check-in at your hotel. Overnight – Hotel Celebrations.
